On Obama's Response, and the Emotional Difference Between Christians and Jews

I saw the HuffPo piece come up as I was writing my thoughts. I just do not understand the mentality of someone who could stay at a church where the preacher is upon occasion spewing such trash, other than a mentality that says: "oh, he doesn't mean it. He's just like our old Uncle who spouts off every so often. Let me tell you: Obama is from a different place, geographically and emotionally. He is not the angry young man (and deservedly so) that Pastor Wright is. That man had to go through a lot to get where he is and the white man (Jews are conflated in that equation) is the single biggest problem. Maybe this is the fundamental difference between Jews and the rest of humanity: we are willing to leave the religion and stop following if we don't connect spiritually. Those in pastor Wright's church will not continue their journey. They have nowhere else to go, as the Moshiach has already arrived -and departed, awaiting only the incoming of the Jews to Israel to reappear. There is nothing else to look for, so they are content to let remarks like Pastor Wright's go by with a blog post courtesy of Arianna Huffington. Christians' story is foretold: Jews' is not. I thank G-d that most Christians just respect our beliefs and treat us as mere mortals. The ideas here bear further thought and analysis, but not today.
